The Similarities Between Water and Your Business Ideas

Water. It is the most essential element of life. Without it, we cease to exist. Yet, how often do we pause to consider what we are truly asking water to do for us? Do we ever see things from water’s perspective?

Every time we drink water, it enters our bodies in its purest form—clean, refreshing, and full of life-giving properties. But by the time it leaves, it has been altered, carrying waste and impurities. It is no longer clear. It is no longer what it once was. And yet, water never complains. It simply continues to serve, doing what it was designed to do—sustaining life, regardless of how it is treated.

Now, let’s talk about business. As business owners, we often carry a sense of entitlement, believing that just because we have built something, people should support us. But why is that? Why do we think that simply having a business means a bank should fund it? Why do YOU think your business should be viewed as essential as water?

Water doesn’t demand anything. It simply is, and because of its necessity, people seek it out. What problem are you solving? Your business should operate the same way. Instead of expecting people to support you, create something they need. Make your presence so undeniable that people come to you naturally, just as they do for water.

But there is another lesson from water. Every time you introduce it into something impure, it takes on the contamination. If you pour fresh, clean water into a filthy container, the water doesn’t remain clean—it becomes polluted. Likewise, if you introduce fresh ideas, new strategies, and innovative thinking into a business that clings to old habits and a stagnant mindset, the outcome will be no different than waste leaving the body.

A great thing entered, but it turned into waste.

You may have groundbreaking ideas, but if you refuse to evolve your thinking, challenge your approach, and adopt a fresh perspective, your business will never change. Success is not just about what you pour in; it’s about the environment in which it is received. Are you maintaining a mindset that allows greatness to flourish, or are you contaminating everything that enters?

Signs You Are Contaminating Your Business:

  • Expecting customers to owe you their business.

  • Assuming personal struggles should earn client sympathy.

  • Making decisions based on perception rather than facts.

  • Thinking negatively and expecting failure before even trying.

  • Making excuses instead of seeking solutions.

  • Resisting change and refusing to learn new strategies.

  • Surrounding yourself with people who reinforce old habits.

  • Blaming others instead of taking responsibility.

Water can only do its job if the vessel is ready to receive it properly. The same goes for your business. Are you ready to truly receive success, or will you continue to let it pass through, tainted by old ways of thinking?

The choice is yours.
